Clinical and Research Background
Dr. Stephanie Goya's research program focuses on the evolutionary genomics of human respiratory viruses. Her work integrates pathogen genomics, phylogenetic analysis, and molecular epidemiology to characterize viral diversity, lineage structure, and the evolutionary processes that shape the emergence and global circulation of respiratory viruses.
Using large-scale viral genomic datasets, her research investigates how viral populations diversify, spread, and adapt across human populations. These efforts contribute to improved genomic surveillance and to the interpretation of viral genetic variation for public health and clinical applications.
Her research is expanding to incorporate experimental systems to study the evolutionary dynamics of respiratory viruses in vitro, bridging genomic discoveries with the biological mechanisms that drive viral adaptation and transmission.
