Message From the Chair

Welcome to the UW School of Medicine's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP). We are the newest Department in the School of Medicine, but we have deep roots here. The former Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine started many years ago (1940s and 1960s, respectively), and we joined as one Department on July 1, 2020.

The mission of UW Medicine is a simple one, "To Improve the Health of the Public." DLMP wholeheartedly supports this mission, aiming to care for patients in the present with our clinical programs, to care for patients in the near future by training the next generation of clinicians, and to care for patients in the distant future by discovering disease mechanisms and cures that will change how we practice medicine.

As the largest academic department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology in our region, we offer an extensive menu of high-quality clinical tests, training programs in many areas (residency, fellowship, BS/MS/PhD) and world-class research programs. I encourage you to explore our website to find information about current Departmental events, educational programming such as Grand Rounds, and links to our clinical test menu. Thank you for your visit.
