Clinical and Research Background

Dr. Jackson is an Assistant Professor of Pathology and the Director of Autopsy & After Death Services for UW-Medicine Hospitals, having joined the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in 2023 after serving as a Medical Examiner for Seattle and Chicago. Her interests are heavily informed by her diverse and robust training across the country. Dr. Jackson’s medical and public health education and training in New Orleans in the post-Hurricane Katrina era, paired with her Public Health Practicum with the Louisiana State Epidemiologist in the Louisiana Office of Public Health, Infectious Disease Epidemiology Program, ignited her passion for atypical and unusual causes of death, infectious diseases discovered at autopsy, and the integration of postmortem examination findings with public health surveillance and initiatives. Her intensive training in forensic pathology at the prestigious New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator ignited her interest in postmortem imaging modalities, ante- and postmortem diagnostic discrepancies, and vulnerable populations.

In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Jackson serves on the Washington State Department of Health’s Maternal Mortality Review Panel and the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood Registry & Research Collaborative—both aimed at preventing future deaths through retrospective review.
