Clinical and Research Background

Dr. Mittenzwei’s research focus is head trauma and its effects, with ongoing projects studying traumatic brain injury including blast injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. Because there can be multiple coexistent pathologies, Dr. Mittenzwei also studies the intersection between brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body disease, and vascular pathology, among others.
