Description
For the detection of HPV as a screen for cervical cancer. This test is performed in combination with a Pap Smear: Cytology Testing [184]. ThinPrep collection vials can be shared between HPV and Pap testing.
High Risk HPV genotypes included are 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68. Genotyping for HPVs 16 and 18 are integrated into testing and reporting.

Do not combine with collection for Microbiology or Virology specimens. A separate specimen must be collected for HPV.
ThinPrep Pap Test (PreservCyt only)
1. Label vial with two patient identifiers.
2. Obtain adequate sample from endocervix and endocervical canal using plastic spatula and endocervical brush.
3. Rinse vigorously 10 times in solution to remove any residual sample from spatula and brush.
4. Tighten cap and place vial and requisition
Handling Instructions
Transport at room temperature. Send to lab as soon as possible.
