Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge and separate plasma/serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer plasma/serum to a separate aliquot tube and freeze at -20° C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.

Stability: Frozen (preferred): 1 month; Refrigerated: 1 week; Ambient: 72 hours. Unacceptable: Thawed specimens.

requested: 1 mL plasma or serum
minimum: 0.3 mL plasma or serum

Processing

Centrifuge and separate plasma/serum from cells within 2 hours of collection. Transfer plasma/serum to a separate plastic vial and freeze at -20° C.

Note: While not preferred, samples collected in gel separator tubes (PPT, SST) may be sent in the original tube as long as they have been spun within 2 hours of collection.
