Description
UW Medicine Anticoagulation Services
Patient plasma is diluted 1:3 with normal pooled plasma and the thrombin time is measured. This thrombin time is compared to a calibration curve generated using known concentrations of dabigatran.

Interferences and Limitations
The presences of any other Direct Thrombin Inhibitors (Bivalent and Univalent) will be detected by this assay.

Handling Instructions
Specimen MUST be processed by Lab within 6 hours of collection.

Processing
Take specimen to Coagulation lab.
Outside laboratories: Centrifuge for 10 minutes, remove plasma & respin plasma for another 10 minutes. Decant and FREEZE plasma (minimum 0.5 mL) @ -20°C to -80°C. Send FROZEN on dry ice.
