Description
The DOAC screen is intended to rapidly identify patients who may be taking direct oral anticoagulants. This information may be useful in making decisions about performing surgery or treating with fibrinolytic agents. The thrombin time will detect direct thrombin inhibitors, while Direct Xa Inhibitor Screen will detect direct Xa inhibitors. Please contact the laboratory medicine resident on call if there are questions.

Handling Instructions
Specimen must be processed by Lab within 4 hours of collection.

requested: Entire sample
minimum: 1.0 mL plasma
Processing
Take specimen immediately to Coag Lab.
Outside labs: Centrifuge for 10 minutes, remove plasma and respin plasma for another 10 minutes. Decant and Freeze plasma (minimum 1.0 mL) at -20° to -80°C. Send frozen on ice.
