Description
Description: Measurement of 25 amino acids by ion exchange chromatography. This test includes the following: Taurine, Aspartic Acid, Hydroxyproline, Threonine, Serine, Asparagine, Glutamic Acid, Glutamine, Proline, Glycine, Alanine, Citrulline, Valine, Cystine, Methionine, Alloisoleucine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Tyrosine, Phenylalanine, Homocystine, Ornithine, Lysine, Histidine, Arginine.
Clinical Utility: Amino acid analysis can be useful in the clinical work up, diagnosis, or dietary monitoring of the following disorders: Phenylketonuria, tyrosinemia, maple syrup urine disease, urea cycle defects (argininosuccinic aciduria, argininemia, CPS, OTC deficiency, citrullinemia), non-ketotic hyperglycinemia, homocystinuria, defects of cobalamin metabolism, cystinuria (urine only), ornithinemia, and lysinuric protein intolerance. Amino acid analysis is also performed for nutritional monitoring.
Ordering Requirements: Include relevant clinical information (drug therapy, family history, etc.) in the Epic order comment to ensure proper interpretation.
