Ref. Range Notes

Reference Interval: Not Detected

    Interpretive Data:

    The quantitative range of this assay is 2.0-6.7 log IU/mL (92 - 4,600,000 IU/mL).

A negative result (less than 2.0 log IU/mL or less than 92 IU/mL) does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or HDV RNA concentrations below the level of detection of the test. Inhibition may also lead to underestimation of viral quantitation.

    Guidelines

    Ordering & Collection

    Specimen Type

    Blood

    Collection

3 mL blood in GOLD TOP tube (SST)

Note: This test requires a dedicated tube and cannot be shared.

    Handling Instructions

    • Note: Serum submitted in an unopened tube is preferred due to potential contamination. However, ARUP will accept sterile aliquots. If sending, note "sterile aliquot" on the requisition to prevent delays.

Stability: Frozen: 30 days; Refrigerated: 1 week; Ambient: 24 hours.

    Quantity

requested: 1 mL serum in a spun, unopened gold SST
minimum: 0.5 mL serum in a spun, unopened gold SST

    Processing

Centrifuge sample and freeze in the original container at -20°C. Do not aliquot or open the tube.

    • Note: Serum submitted in an unopened tube is preferred due to potential contamination. However, ARUP will accept sterile aliquots.
