Description

Ordering Recommendation: Testing should only be performed on individuals meeting Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinical criteria for Zika virus (e.g., clinical signs and symptoms associated with Zika virus infection) and/or CDC epidemiological criteria for Zika virus (e.g., history of residence in or travel to a geographic region with active Zika transmission at the time of travel, or other epidemiological criteria for which Zika virus testing may be indicated).

It is recommended to test both blood and urine sample types. Refer to Zika Virus PCR, Serum (Sendout) [RZIKAP] for PCR testing performed on serum.

Collect 1 mL random urine collection in a sterile, preservative-free container.

Handling Instructions

Outside Laboratories: Transfer urine to a preservative-free, screw-cap plastic vial, leaving room at the top for expansion. Freeze urine at -20°C while awaiting shipment. Transport on dry ice.

Stability: Frozen (preferred): 6 weeks; Refrigerated: 5 days; Ambient: Unacceptable.
