“Human genetics links regulation of mRNA isoform balance to neurodegenerative disease”

Degeneration of neurons within the brain and spinal cord lead to cognitive and motor impairment that is debilitating and life-threatening. Genetic forms of neurodegeneration are commonly caused by mutations in RNA-binding proteins, yet little is known about their role in neuronal development, function, and survival. In this seminar, the role of the RNA kinase, CLP1, in motor neuron disease will be discussed; with broader implications for patterned dysregulation of mRNA isoform expression in neurodegenerative disease.
