Clinical and Research Background
Dr. Lieberman’s research interests focus primarily on applying functional genomics techniques to understand the pathogenesis of Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum, the causative agent of syphilis. Following her PhD focused on molecular biochemistry from the University of Maryland at Baltimore and postdoctoral work at Seattle Children’s Hospital focused on brain tumor immunology, she joined Dr. Alex Greninger’s research group in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Washington in 2019 as a research scientist. In addition to leading work on global and local syphilis molecular epidemiology, Dr. Lieberman continues to work closely with Dr. Greninger to develop custom analysis pipelines to characterize hypervariable genes in T. pallidum.
