Clinical and Research Background
Dr. Sanchez-Contreras’ research is focused on the role of somatic genetic variation in normal aging and neurodegeneration and the molecular mechanisms that regulate the occurrence of this type of variation. She implements sequencing of genes of interest in neuropathology specimens of patients with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease and in animal models, combined with region- and cell-specific biological characterizations to understand the consequences of somatic mutations.
