Images of Barrett’s Esophagus Negative for Dysplasia

While cytologic abnormalities can be present in Barrett's esophagus, they are confined to the lower portion of glands. The mucosal surface shows less abnormality or is normal.

The deeper glands demonstrate mild nuclear atypia.

These changes, however, do not extend to the mucosal surface.

The mucosal surface demonstrates mucin caps with basally oriented nuclei lacking hyperchromatism, pleomorphism, or nuclear contour irregularity.

The deeper glands in Barrett's esophagus usually demonstrate some degree of nuclear atypia. However, there is maturation of the epithelium as it extends onto the mucosal surface.

Additional examples we would interpret as negative for dysplasia.
