Description
CBC & diagnostic testing for thalassemia and hemoglobinopathies with interpretation. Includes hemoglobin electrophoresis by isoelectric focusing, HPLC quantification of hemoglobins F and A2, and quantification of hemoglobins S, C, D, or E if present. Additional testing is performed for patients with microcytic RBC indices at added cost.

CBC: Lavender top MUST be processed by Lab within 24 hour of blood collection.
Accept even with less sample, or without the RCD Data Sheet. RCD will determine which tests can be done with the limited sample.
UW-MT Instructions, as above plus: Hematology will return Lavender tube used for CBC back to SPS to forward to RCD.
Stability for Thalassemia tests: EDTA: Refrigerated, 7 days. Ambient, 2 days
Unacceptable: Other anticoagulants, Frozen specimens.
