Description
Ordering Recommendation: Aids in the diagnosis of histoplasmosis. The immunodiffusion component of this test detects total antibodies against the H and M antigens of Histoplasma capsulatum. The complement fixation component of this test detects total antibodies to mycelial and yeast antigens of Histoplasma.
Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of acute specimens.

Handling Instructions
Outside Laboratories: Centrifuge sample and transfer serum to a separate plastic vial within 2 hours of collection. Refrigerate serum.
Stability: Refrigerated (preferred): 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles); Ambient: 48 hrs.
Unacceptable Conditions: Contaminated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens.
