Blood in 3 or 5 mL Lavender (EDTA) tube

Handling Instructions

The Laboratory MUST receive and process specimen, within 4 hrs of blood collection.

Note: Samples from UW Neighborhood Clinics or outside locations should be refrigerated and transported to UW-MT Hematology. After arrival samples should be maintained at room temperature for testing.

Processing

Take sample to Hematology with "shared sticker" label
[this tube can be shared with CBC].

HMC/SPS: On Friday, send specimens collected before 2:30pm by taxi to Hematopathology lab.

Stability: For CBC & Diff: Stable 24 hours. For T-Cells: Lavender Top stable for 48 hours @ room temperature. Specimens >48 hour will be run by HP, but results will be reported at the discretion of the Lab based on Integrity of the specimen.
