Lab Week recognizes the medical laboratory professionals, pathologists, phlebotomists, research scientists, students, leadership, and support staff that play an essential role in providing critical diagnostic services for patient treatment and community health.

The spirit of the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology has been strong in the face of the global COVID-19 pandemic. With smiles on beneath our masks, we have confronted the complexities and demands of the pandemic with incredible teamwork and innovation. We acknowledge the risks that all members of our department have taken to serve UW Medicine patients and their families. Despite these enormous challenges, our department has performed over 2 million COVID-19 PCR tests and 40% of Washington State’s COVID-19 testing since March 2020.

Furthermore, the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine joined forces on July 1, 2020, to optimize patient care as we took on the mighty task of Destination: One, converting to a single electronic health record system. Due to the unwavering commitment of our department members, we continued to provide the world-class services we are known for while taking on these endeavors.

Please join us in celebrating the members of the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology during Medical Laboratory Professionals Week!
