The University of Washington Fellowship in Dermatopathology is a one year comprehensive training experience. Training includes experience with routine and complex dermatopathology cases, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and molecular diagnostic techniques. The University of Washington is a tertiary referral center, providing a broad range of in house as well as consult material for a rich educational experience. Dermatopathology fellows interface with clinical dermatology, hematopathology, soft tissue pathology, oral pathology, and surgical pathology. Fellows are expected to be active in clinical conferences, teaching conferences, and teaching and mentoring of dermatology and pathology resident trainees. Research is strongly encouraged through a variety of ongoing projects in both pathology and dermatology.
Requirements
Prior to appointment in the program, applicants must have successfully completed a residency in dermatology, anatomic pathology (AP-3), or anatomic and clinical pathology (APCP-4).
Program Aims
- Train pathology and dermatology trained fellows in the independent practice of the subspecialty of dermatopathology.
- Recruit diverse and intellectually motivated trainees to dermatopathology fellowship.
- Mentor fellows on personal and career development to guide them into optimal careers for their personal goals.
- Train and mentor fellows in the skills needed for academic dermatopathology careers, including development of a research project, scientific writing, grants and publication.
Stipend & Benefits
Appointment is for one year. Stipend and benefits are based on the schedule for residents at an equivalent level. Fellows are encouraged to apply for extramural funding if additional research training is desired.
